An exciting new vintage auction is launching at a Cambridgeshire market, and the best part is the event will happen every week.

The Peterborough market will host a new, regular auction every Friday from 9am, with sales starting at noon. Things will be kicking off with the first event on Good Friday, April 19.

Peterborough's market has been struggling recently, as have many in the area. The covered market is no longer as busy and bustling as it once was, and doesn't seem to attract as much footfall as it once did.

So if you've got belongings you're looking to part ways with, bring along your unwanted items, be it china, glassware, bric a brac, jewellery, clocks, coins, collectibles or small furniture.

If you think of yourself as a bit of a pro-haggler then why not try putting a bid in yourself? You may be surprised at the bargains you could find.

In contrast to popular online bidding site eBay, this auction will take things back to basic - without the ability to place bids on the internet.

All transactions will be cash only, any sold items will be paid out on the day and for those of you unfortunate enough for your item not to sell it must be collected then as well.

Ron Bateman, of Batemans Auctioneers Stamford who are working with the Council on the event, said: "We are looking forward to doing an auction without the internet - this will be a much more traditional auction, where we'll be selling real things to real people."

Steve Woolley, markets and commercial trading officer for Peterborough City Council, said: "This is a fantastic addition to the market and we are hoping people will really support it.

"We're encouraging everyone to pop along and see what's on offer, and also bring along their own items."

So if you're planning on doing a bit of spring cleaning, why not take your items down to the market and see if you can get a couple of quid for them?
