Inside the Cambridgeshire church with more than 130 angels in its roof

It's a truly stunning sight!

St Wendreda's church sits on the southern edge of March, with the building dating back to around the 11th century.

With it being March week at Cambridgeshire Live we thought we'd take a look inside this stunning building.

The current church was built on the site of the original church, which was founded by Wendreda, an anglo-saxon nun, healer, and saint, in the seventh cenrtury.

The main draw for this church is the breathtaking roof, which is filled with the figures of wooden angels, with even more carved into the double hammer beam roof behind and around the sides.

In all there are thought to be approximately 135 angels residing in the roof of the church, which are named after the people who adopted them during a fundraising push by the church.

Some of the angels are made up of figures depicting saints and martyrs, while others in the lower tier hold medieval musical instruments

It is thought that the roof is one of the finest left of its kind in East Anglia, and the church itself is a Grade 1 listed building.
