Peterborough may not seem the first choice for a Harry Potter convention, but that's where WizCon will hold its very first event and wizards, witches and muggles can all come together to celebrate the magic of the franchise.

Fans of Harry Potter will be donning their robes as they meet for a day of Q&A panels, quizzes, and magical classes and demonstrations at the Cresset in Peterborough on March 24.

The event has guests including Josh Herdman, who played Malfoy's henchman Gregory Goyle, and Chris Rankin, who took on the part of Percy Weasley, the straight-laced older brother of Fred, George, Ron and Ginny Weasley.

Other guests include James Payton, the actor who took on the role of Neville's tortured father, Frank Longbottom, and Rohan Gotobed who portrayed a young Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

For those needing to brush on up their skills there will be a wand fighting masterclass, although people are advised to bring their own wand as there are only a limited amount available to borrow.

There will also be a transfiguration class during the day, the first to be held outside the hallowed grounds of Hogwarts. The lesson is for everyone, whether you're a first year or about to sit your O.L.W.s or have progressed to your N.E.W.T.s.

Originally the venue had been booked for Peterborough Comic-Con, which was set to return after a successful launch in 2018. Unfortunately they had to make the announcement in September 2018 that the event for 2019 would be cancelled "due to unforseen and unavoidable circumstances."

But WizCon swooped in like Hedwig delivering Harry the Nimbus 2000 to take over the date and provide wizards and muggles a place to celebrate all things magical.

The event is also supporting Little People UK, who's patron is non other than everyone's favourite charms professor, Professor Flitwick, aka Warwick Davis.

Event organiser, Simon Mayhew, said: "I've wanted to create a Harry Potter event for a number of years, and with the Fantastic Beasts films currently so popular I thought it was the right time.

"I live in Peterborough so I wanted to create something in my home town."

The event will also have their own wizarding-themed escape room, run by Hour Escape Rooms of Peterborough. Small groups of elite students must prove their loyalty to Professor Cairn in order to join a dark coven of witches and wizards and learn more about forbidden magic and the dark arts.

While there won't be a lesson from Madame Hooch in the car park, those wishing to take their broom for a spin will be able to do so, and take away a souvenir photo of their flying skills.

For those who have yet to purchase their tickets, they are still available online and will also be made available on the door on Sunday.
