Part of the A1 was closed today (March 22) following a crash near Tickencote.

The Great North Road closure is caused severe delays stretching as far back as Peterborough, Cambs.

According to Highways England the incident occurred near the B1081 junction.

Lane one of two, on the northbound carriageway, remained shut while recovery took place.

Leicestershire police attended the scene.

Highways England officers asked drivers to seek alternative routes.

Queues lasted for six miles and is impacting traffic near Wansford, Cambridgeshire.

Normal traffic conditions returned around 3pm.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire police at the time said: “We were called to reports of a collision on Caster Road shortly after 1:20 pm.

“Lane one of two is closed.

“A number of vehicles were involved in a collision on the northbound carriageway between A606 and the service station.

“Highways England are on the scene - and are dealing with the collision.

“Six vehicles were involved and one still requires recovery.

“Traffic is passing the scene but residual delays remain.”

Queues are lasting for six miles and is impacting traffic near Wansford, Cambridgeshire.

According to Google traffic maps, cars are a standstill in the area.

Travel time is around 40 minutes on the approach.

Details of injuries are not yet known.

Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume around 3pm.
