ArtWalk is an opportunity to stretch your legs and see the wide variety of art presented by Annapolis’ art galleries and watch artists in action at a few locations.

Thursday marks the 29th walk since it’s birth in the 1980s as an effort by art venues to join forces and spread the word about the lively visual arts scene. They held events four times a year. That evolved into the one-big-night ArtWalk in 1990.

Now there is more to brag about.

More galleries. More art. More fun.

“It has been a grand success thanks to local support, great art and a growing interest in art in Annapolis,” said McBride Gallery owner Cynthia McBride who has nurtured the event form it’s infancy.

“it is a fun local event, a chance to meet artists face to face and watch them work – even ask them any question you want.”

Next week, 15 galleries from West Annapolis to Eastport will open their doors for ArtWalk from 5 to 9 p.m. .alleries along Annapolis, Main, West, Francis streets, Maryland Avenue, City Dock and State Circle will welcome guests.

Artists working in oil, watercolor, ceramics, woodturning, sculpture, jewelry, handcrafts and more, will be demonstrating their skills.

At Annapollis Marine Gallery, realist/iimpressionist Sharon Littig will be painting a piece during the event. She has been represented by the gallery for many years.

Gallery owner Jeff Schaub, who has been participating in ArtWalk since its inception, said having artists on hand is an extra attraction.

“People can watch the artist at work. They have an interest in what our artists are doing and how they create what they do.”

at McBride Gallery, plein air painter Christopher Best will demonstrate his skills. Best has brought several works in for an exhibit, ” Annapolis Old and New,” featuring paintings of some familiar landmarks. McBride will also have guitarist Tim Kolberg setting the mood.

West Annapolis Artworks will feature paintings from “Paint Annapolis 2019” and Pointillism artist Tricia Harvey will demonstrate her craft live from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Violinist Dana Bevard will add to the ambiance.

Participating galleries will have yellow balloons and a banner posted. Maps of the full ArtsWalk will be available at each art gallery.

The Annapolis Blue Circulator Trolley gives free rides around Annapolis. It has regular stops and will also stop for you if you ‘hail’ it instead of huffing it from gallery to gallery..
