People in the news: Ally Snead, John Donnelly awarded Eastport Yacht Club Foundation marine and maritime scholarships

The Eastport Yacht Club Foundation awarded scholarships to two new students pursuing education and careers in marine and maritime fields.

John Donnelly is a South River High School STEM student entering his junior year. He participated in the Marine Trades Association of Maryland on-the job-training program, working at Hartge Yacht Harbor, as a Annapolis Harbor Master dock hand and is now enrolling at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Entering his Junior year, John is working for his tug endorsement and acquired sea time towards that goal by interning at Wilmington Tugs this summer.

Ally Snead is a STEM program graduate from Indian Creek School heading to the University of Connecticut to study environmental engineering. Working with the Oyster Recovery Program, she helped evaluate the care guidelines for the Maryland Grow Oysters program and worked with the scientists at Horn Point Lab.

Each year, the Marine & Maritime Scholarship Program awards $20,000 in scholarships . This year it provided support to eight returning students: Gracie Bowers at the University of New Orleans; George Burkley at the Florida Institute of Technology; Michael Kaminskas at Coastal Carolina University ; Addison Lash at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy; Kaila Kotkiewicz, Aidan Molesky, Maxwell Ryder, and Matt Wilson at SUNY Maritime College.
