Two Annapolis-based organizations were awarded $4,000 in grants as part of an effort to support professional Annapolis musicians and music programs for the youth, according to a press release.

Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians, Inc. (AMFM) through its David Glaser Education Fund awarded Creating Communities and Peabody Preparatory the grants.

“We are pleased to be able to support these excellent organizations and their quality music programs,” said AMFM President Matt McConville in the release.

Creating Communities provides young people from low-income families in Anne Arundel County with music and cultural arts programs, the release said. During the summer, the organization provides students between 8 to 17 with art sessions on topics like African and world drumming and special arts workshops.

Peabody Preparatory provides music education and hosts a program for singers in middle to high school, according to the release. The program participants can receive professional discipline of preparing Italian/English art songs, vocal techniques, performance skills, acting, poetry and more.

AMFM provides other youth program grants and scholarships such as the Tim King Scholarship Fund, which funds music instruction at Bates Middle School and for underserved students who take lessons with local music organizations. Also through the Tim King Scholarship Fund, one high school senior intending to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music performance is awarded a $5,000 scholarship each year.
