A mural of George Floyd in Susan Campbell Park was moved from the area into a roadway and damaged Friday, Annapolis police said.

Police responded to City Dock at approximately 6:20 a.m. for reports of destruction of property. The mural was found by public works employees in a nearby roadway, busted at the seam, according to Annapolis police spokesperson Corporal David Stokes. The employees repaired the mural and returned it to its original position.

Stokes said there was no suspect information but video surveillance was being reviewed for possible vandalism.

The mural’s co-creator, Jeff Huntington, said he was not informed his work had been damaged. He learned of the incident after speaking with The Capital Monday.

He plans for the mural to eventually be brought to the Banneker Douglas Museum, but that process may be delayed if further repairs are needed.

Comacell Brown Jr. and Deonte Ward collaborated with Huntington to create the mural.
