Comment period on new draft plan for Anaconda mine in Lyon County begins Aug. 20
On August 20, 2020, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Corrective Actions will be opening the public comment period for its Draft Proposed Plan: Operable Unit 8 (OU-8) Peripheral Areas located within the Anaconda Copper Mine Site in Lyon County. The public comment period will remain open through September 19, 2020.
In addition to the opportunity for members of the public to provide written comments on the proposed plan, NDEP has also scheduled virtual public meetings on September 16, 2020, from 9:00am – 10:00am and again from 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Comments made during the virtual public meetings will also be considered in NDEP’s comprehensive review of the proposed plan.
The proposed site work related to the peripheral areas will be integral to carrying out the proposed restoration work for the adjacent OU-8 heap leach pads, previously approved in the 2017 OU-8 Record of Decision, and will be essential to ensure the heap leach pads are effectively capped and closed.
The Draft Proposed Plan and public meeting announcement can be viewed and downloaded from the NDEP website: https://ndep.nv.gov/land/abandoned-mine-lands/anaconda-home.
Persons wishing to obtain the meeting agenda should mail or email their request to the contact listed below at least seven days prior to the meeting date. Persons wishing to comment regarding this proposed plan should send their comments to the contact listed below, via mail or email, on or before September 19, 2020:
