The incredibly popular Mace Windu was first introduced to the Star Wars universe 20 years ago in The Phantom Menace. Thanks to actor Samuel L. Jackson's charisma, Windu is often considered one of the best parts of the prequel trilogy. Unfortunately, like many of the Jedi in Revenge of the Sith, Windu fell, quite literally, to Darth Sidious' machinations. However, there's a glimmer of hope for those fans who have always wished for more of the powerful Jedi master and his unique perspective on the Force.

In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jackson was asked which of the characters from his extensive filmography he would like to play again. Jackson replied, "I'd really love to give one more run at Mace Windu in Star Wars." When Colbert reminded him of how the Jedi master lost his hand to Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith, Jackson responded, "There's a long history of one-handed guys that were Jedis, that have lightsabers, that still made it." The actor then went on to explain, "Jedis can fall from incredible heights and not die, like cats."

In the prequel trilogy, Windu was a member of the Jedi Council. He was there when Qui-Gon Jinn first brought Anakin to Coruscant for training, and he witnessed the young Jedi's fall when Palpatine was revealed as the Dark Lord of the Sith. Windu maintained a skeptical attitude toward Anakin Skywalker and the Prophecy. In the end, his doubts were proven right.

The Skywalker saga will come to an end in the upcoming Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker. That doesn't necessarily mean that Mace Windu will never be seen again. There are various Star Wars projects currently in the works, including two film trilogies and a television series. There's also the anthology film series that has currently been put on hold. As long as the Star Wars universe keeps expanding, there's always hope for the return of Jedi master Mace Windu.
