Birmingham, Ala.- It’s a unique cultural event and it’s going on in the city of Birmingham later this month.
Mitchell’s Place is hosting Birmingham’s first Dragon Boat Race and Festival on Saturday, August 24 at East Lake Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dragon Boat Racing is a unique cultural event. Teams of 21 people row their way to victory in authentic 46-foot long Hong Kong style dragon boats. This type of boat racing goes back 2,300 years.
Organizers for this event say you will be able to see teams compete against each other and see which one can raise the most money for children who have been diagnosed with autism. You can also enjoy a kid’s area, equipped with bounce houses and games. There will also be vendors offering everything from art to food.
This event is free to the community and proceeds will go to support the students and families of Mitchell’s Place, serving children affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.
