MOUNDVILLE, Ala. (WIAT)-Heavy rain and flooding is causing problems for some Hale county residents in Moundville.  Flooding on Saturday washed out a portion of Cutoff Road and caused another
20 foot deep sinkhole.

Many residents who live in the River Beach community evacuated their homes over the weekend.  James Edgar is living with his daughter in Tuscaloosa until the flood water goes down. He is
frustrated.

“Well the residents want the road fixed.  They want it fixed so you can get in and out, there is only one
way in and out.  But I don’t know what the deal is about the road, I don’t understand” Edgar said.

This is the second time cutoff road has flooded in a month, the last time was New Years Eve.  The sinkhole happened at the same spot, workers repaired it.  But it will cost at least  $ 25,000 dollars to
repair it according to District 1 Hale County commissioner Scott Hallman.

“We are going to start piling more gravel back into it and bring bulldozers back in and get
more gravel back in and ditch it and get everything back smooth again and hopefully it will hold” Hallman said.

Hallman says many residents decided to stay at their homes, but there shouldn’t be any problems.
Hallman tells CBS 42 homeowners have generators, and food and water and plenty of supplies until
the sink hole can be fixed. Plus the homes in River Beach are built taller to prevent flood waters from
causing damages.

“There is some people who elect to stay back there, and they stay in their homes and make sure everything is fine.  They have enough food and water and supplies to last them until the water goes down”.

Hallman is hoping residents who evacuated can return to their homes by Thursday.  Work crews are expected to have the sinkhole fixed by then.
