Police were called to Chester over the weekend following a report of a man with a gun in the city centre .

Officers flocked to Upper Northgate Street following a report at around 1.45pm of a man holding what appeared to be a gun.

On attending the scene it became clear that the man was not holding a firearm.

A spokesman for Cheshire police said: "At around 1.45pm on Saturday 17 August police received a report of a man holding what looked like a firearm at a car park in Upper Northgate Street in Chester city centre.

"Firearms officers swiftly attended and established that the man had not being carrying a firearm and there was no threat to the public.

"Officers left the area after providing reassurance to members of the public."
