Merseyrail services between Hooton and Chester have been suspended after a person was hit by a train.

The person was struck at Bache train station at around 7.15pm this evening (Tuesday, June 4).

The emergency services are out in force in Mill Lane near the entrance to Morrison supermarket which adjoins Bache station.

They include police, fire engines, ambulances, a major rescue unit from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, two incident response units from the ambulance service and a Network Rail response unit.

Services on the Chester line are currently disrupted and replacement buses have been requested to run between Hooton and Chester.

Trains are currently starting and terminating at Hooton.

Merseyrail tweeted saying: "Due to a person being struck by a train at Bache, services on the Chester line are currently disrupted. Services are starting and terminating at Hooton.

"More info to follow."

Merseyrail have since indicated they expect disruption to continue until at least 9pm.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix has updated saying: "Service suspended on Merseyrail between Hooton and Chester due to person hit by a train."
