The Tower Wharf Promenade next to the River Dee in Chester is now closed for several months for workers to carry out urgent repairs.

Cheshire West and Chester Council have made the decision to close the Promenade next to the river near Sealand Road from yesterday (Monday, December 10) due to the deterioration of the timber decking and support beams, with work not expected to finish until next spring.

Cllr Karen Shore, the council's cabinet member for environment, said: "The existing timber decking and supports will be removed and then new durable glass reinforced plastic (GRP) support beams will be installed to support new GRP planks.

"The new deck planks will be made from 80% recycled plastic.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but a closure is needed for safety reasons.”

A diversion for pedestrians and cyclists is via Saddlery Way and New Crane Street.
