The founder of a well known Chester city centre estate and letting agents has sadly passed away.

Tim Matthew, 77, who died on March 30 after living with cancer for several years, created Matthew’s of Chester with his wife Sue in 1986 with only a phone, a card index and a photocopier and with average house prices of £38,000.

While a traditional man, he was ‘ever the innovator’ - among other things being the first agent to move to Lower Bridge Street.

Matthew’s says numerous clients have spoken of his humour and professionalism over the years.

As a result of the firm foundations created by Tim and Sue, the business continues to this day as a family-owned enterprise and an ever present company within the Chester property market.

A resident of Chester for more than 50 years, Tim was a well known and well respected businessman and was a past chairman of the Chester Association of Auctioneers, Estate Agents, Surveyors and Valuers in 1996, a former member of Chester Business Club and a member of Round Table and the 41 Club.

A keen sailor, coastguard volunteer and supporter of the RNLI, he enjoyed lobster catching on the Menai Straits and throughout his life loved motor cars, some particular favourites being a series of classic Mercedes.

Tim is survived by his wife Sue, daughters Rebecca and Victoria, son in-laws Kevin and Peter and four grandchildren, Charlotte, Matthew, Scott and Emma.

The funeral will take place at Chester Crematorium on Wednesday, April 17 at noon. Family flowers only, donations if desired may be made to the RNLI and to Cancer Research UK.
