Two men will appear in court next month following an altercation in a residential Chester street allegedly involving an offensive weapon.

Police blocked off Chichester Street in the Garden Quarter due to an incident reported about 1.30pm on Wednesday (May 27).

Officers attended the scene and arrested two men.

Lewis Jones, 28, of Norris Road, Chester, has since been charged with use of threatening and abusive language.

Matthew Winstanley, 28, of Judges Drive, Liverpool, has been charged with use of threatening and abusive language, threatening a person with an offensive weapon and possession of a class B drug (cannabis resin).

The pair have both been released on bail to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, June 26.

Chichester Road was temporarily closed while follow-up enquiries took place in the area, including reviewing CCTV footage.

Where the alleged incident took place is a busy street as it is a cut-through between Bouverie Street and Liverpool Road.
