A man who was found in possession of class A and B drugs while sleeping rough on the streets of Chester has been jailed.

Calton Xavier, 23, of Franklin Close in Tidworth, was approached by police officers on the morning of Saturday, September 23, 2017.

At the time Xavier was sleeping rough in the rear yard of an Italian restaurant on Rufus Court, Northgate Street.

It's reported that when officers attempted to speak to the 23-year-old he avoided eye contact and wouldn't communicate.

Police arrested Xavier when they found a large bag containing a quantity of cannabis in his possession.

More drugs were found after he was searched in custody.

Xavier pleaded guilty to three counts of possession with intent to supply MDMA, cannabis and cocaine.

He received a sentence of four years and six months at Chester Crown Court on Monday (April 15).

PC William McMillan, of Chester Beat Team, said: "From the moment we saw Xavier he was reluctant to engage with us and even refused to move to the police van when he had been arrested.

"Xavier came to Chester with the intent of supplying drugs around the city. I hope this sends a message to those who think they can come here and blight our community with drugs."
