People in Cheshire are being warned of strong winds ahead of the arrival of Storm Freya, which is due to hit this week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind with gusts of up to 65mph expected in the region.

Pushing north-east across the UK through Sunday afternoon, the winds will only clear into the North Sea early on Monday.

The warning will be in effect from 3pm on Sunday afternoon to 6am on Monday morning.

A yellow weather warning for wind is in place for Sunday afternoon through to Monday morning

Blustery conditions come as a sharp change to a sunny week in Cheshire - which even saw Chester hotter than a Greek city at one point .

According to the UK's national weather service, the windy weather will impact travel across Cheshire with road, rail, air and ferry services likely to be affected.

Danger to life from flying debris is also possible, along with damage to buildings and trees and tiles blown from rooves.

Residents should also be wary of the potential for power cuts and an affect on mobile phone services.

Green Flag's advice on driving in windy conditions:

1. Do you have to drive? Avoiding travel in stormy weather is the safest, if not always the most practical, course of action.

2. Plan your journey and check for disruption

3. Hold that door! When you’re opening a car door in strong winds, especially from the inside, have a firm grip of the door handle and be prepared for the wind to catch it.

4. Get a grip – of the steering wheel - make sure to keep grip of the steering wheel with both hands

5. Leave more room on the road – think about buying an in-car charger just in case you need it
