Chester FC look set to complete their defence ahead of the 2019/20 National League North campaign with the signing of a young centre back.

Cheshire Live understands that the Blues have agreed a deal with a defender and that he he will join the club on a season-long loan with no call back option for the entirety of the campaign.

Blues joint-managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson, who have today moved to quash rumours that they were in talks at managerless Bury over the vacancy at Gigg Lane , have been in the market for a younger central defender to challenge experienced centre backs Danny Livesey and Simon Grand for a spot next season.

And they believe they have found the solution and the defender is set to become a Chester player for the campaign this week.

The signing should complete Chester's business in defence after the signings of full-backs Joel Taylor, Kevin Roberts and Jamie Morgan during the close season and the re-signing of Matty Waters, Grand and Livesey.

Chester remain in the market for a new goalkeeper following Grant Shenton's departure to Buxton last week while they are waiting on answers from a central midfielder who can play in an advanced role and a winger.

The Blues are also keen to get a deal for striker Anthony Dudley sorted. Dudley is away on holiday but has attracted interest from clubs including Hartlepool United and Morecambe but it is understood that his preference is another stint with Chester , where he spent last season on loan from Salford City, ending the campaign as the Blues' leading scorer.
