Chester Zoo are live streaming the return of large heath butterflies back into the wild to a secret location where they've been missing for more than a century.

The public will be able to watch live on the zoo's Facebook page from noon today (Wednesday, May 27)  as the butterflies are reintroduced into a secret location in Greater Manchester where they disappeared from 150 years ago.

The butterflies, once commonly found across the North West, disappeared following the destruction of their habitat for agricultural land, leaving just a few small isolated populations across the country.

Now, they have successfully been bred in special breeding facilities at Chester Zoo, while experts at the Lancashire Wildlife Trust lovingly restored the habitat back to its former glory, ready for reintroduction.

You will be able to join experts from Chester Zoo and The Lancashire Wildlife Trust LIVE from 12pm and watch as some of the first butterflies are released back into their new home.
