One of Chester's most popular pubs has urged the public not to use its beer garden as the coronavirus crisis continues.

Due to its canalside location at Tower Wharf, Telford's Warehouse is one of Chester's busiest and popular pubs during hot weather - but this year has seen a whole different story, for obvious reasons.

The venue was forced to close its doors to the public in March, along with all pubs and restaurants across the UK following government advice, but since then, an influx of people have been congregating outside, especially in warm weather.

It has prompted Telford's to issue a statement on Facebook, telling people not to use the beer garden and branding them 'insanely reckless'.

"Please don’t use our beer garden during the fine weather," the statement says. "It is private property and we are currently closed for business. Groups of people using our facilities for drinking and picnicking is frustrating for us, not to mention insanely reckless. Stay safe. Please, stay away."

Staff went on to say the post had been a response to a comment from a concerned local who had observed large groups of people gathering outside the pub, especially when the weather was good.

Others agreed that 'too many people' were congregating there and said it had been happening for the past few weeks.

"Too many people driving or biking there," one wrote. "Meeting up and using the barge next to Telford's as a beer can dump. It has been happening since lockdown. They have no respect or decency."

Another added: "It's ridiculous how many people I've seen down there over recent weeks."
