Chester is the third best place in the UK for a student night out, a survey has revealed.

Despite having just two nightclubs in the city, Chester has beaten off competition from large cities like Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle to make the top three - in a poll conducted by The Student Nightlife Index 2019.

Coming in just behind Huddersfield and Derby, Chester ranked 60.80 overall out of a possible 100, and was judged on various factors relating to students including how many nightlife options there are (50), the price of a pint (£2.95) and the starting price of a taxi (£2.50).

Other things in its favour was the 52 different takeaway options and the city's safety score (78.61).

This latest survey comes just a few weeks after another named Chester the second most student-friendly city in the UK - for its prices, prospects and food affordability.

And it also fared well in other areas, scoring 90% for green space availability, and a general happiness level of 7.6 out of 10.
