Iconic RAF Tornado fighter jet takes up permanent residence just outside Chester

Hundreds gathered to watch three iconic Tornado jets on their farewell flypast

One of the world's most iconic jets will be a landmark permanent fixture on the Chester and North Wales border.

An RAF Tornado, which is being retired after 40 years of service, has been donated by the RAF and installed at Sealand's MoD site as a 'Gate Guardian' to serve as a longstanding reminder of the jet.

Hundreds of aviation fans gathered near the Defence Electronics and Components Agency (DECA) site, which was the former RAF Sealand base, to witness three Tornado jets perform a farewell flypast on Tuesday.

But another jet arrived just a day later to take up permanent residence at DECA, which has provided repair and maintenance for Tornado equipment over the years.

The jet arrived at the site broken up into parts before workers began reassembling it at the front gate.

North Wales Live's chief photographer Ian Cooper took these pictures as the jet arrived on Wednesday.
