One of Chester's two H Samuel jewellery stores is to close next month, staff have confirmed.

The 2,682 sq ft store on the corner of Frodsham Street and Foregate Street has been a mainstay of the city centre since the 1960s, situated among popular stores like M&S, River Island and Paperchase.

But after rumours recently started to circulate on social media about the store's imminent closure, staff confirmed to Cheshire Live that the store will close on September 21.

A bank is rumoured to be taking over the premises, yet it is currently listed for rent on commercial property site Lambert Smith Hampton.

The premises is described as 'available by way of an assignment of an existing full repairing and insuring lease, due to expire on 14th September 2020'.

Rent for the premises is £120,000 exclusive with a rateable value of £129,000.

There do not appear to be any plans to close the other H Samuel store on the corner of Eastgate Street.
