A small house fire broke out Thursday morning in the Alta Vista Terrace Historic District in Lakeview.

No injuries were reported, and there was no major structural damage, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire began in the garage of the rowhouse in the 3800 block of North Alta Vista Terrace, which was attached to the basement just below the kitchen, according to Battalion Chief John Gruber. It was out before about 10:45 a.m.

“It’s mostly smoke damage,” Gruber said. “The fire was mostly contained in the garage.”

The cause of the fire was not known.

Alta Vista Terrace is a one-block street near Wrigley Field consisting of 20 rowhouses on each side whose designs are mirrored diagonally across the block. It was named a Chicago Historic District in 1971.
