A Jeep driver struck two women, inflicting serious head trauma in one of them, before fleeing the scene Saturday night in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side.

The silver Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the women walking on the crosswalk about 6:20 p.m. as the driver was turning left from South Halsted Street onto the 2500 block of South Archer Avenue, according to Chicago police.

A 27-year-old woman suffered head trauma and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. A 19-year-old woman was also brought there after being injured in the crash. She was expected to survive, police said.

After running over one of the women, the driver escaped west on Archer. The vehicle has severe damage on the driver’s side, and the driver’s side front window is covered in clear plastic and tape, police said.

Police are investigating.
