Heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 50 mph are moving through the city and nearby suburbs, according to the National Weather Service.

A special weather statement has been issued for Cook and DuPage counties and will remain in effect until about 3 p.m.

The hazardous weather outlook is for portions of north central Illinois, northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana including Chicago, Cicero, Hammond, Evanston, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, Berwyn, Oak Park, Elmhurst, Calumet City, Chicago Heights, Lansing, Maywood, Blue Island, Dolton, Park Forest, Villa Park, Alsip and Matteson, according to the NWS.

Hail the size of quarters may occur, and there is also risk of flooding.

Additionally, a marine warning remained in effect until 3:30 p.m. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves, the weather service said.
