A teenager was taken to the hospital in critical condition following a vehicle crash near downtown Aurora Monday night.

Just after 11:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of a crash along North Lake Street near Williams Street, Aurora police said in a press release. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had struck a utility pole.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics also responded to the scene and starting providing medical care to the driver, as firefighters worked to free him from the vehicle, according to the release.

A medical helicopter was requested to the scene, but was unable to respond due to the weather conditions, officials said.

The driver was transported to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora in critical condition. The driver was later transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Aurora Police Department Traffic Unit investigators used drone technology to create a 3D digital map of the scene that allows investigators to see specific details and measurements of the area, according to the release.

During the course of the investigation, officers identified a second vehicle of interest in connection with the incident. The second vehicle was located early Tuesday morning and the driver gave a statement to police, the release stated.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 630-256-5330 or call Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
