An Aurora woman has been charged with battery after allegedly slamming her 6-month-old son against a piece of furniture, leaving him unconscious and in critical condition, police said.

Aurora police and the fire department were dispatched to a home on the 2000 block of Fox Pointe Drive for a call of an infant who was unconscious and not breathing around 5 p.m. Friday, police said. Officers found the infant lying on the family room floor and began CPR.

Trivea S. Jones, 23, was alone in her home and told police and fire personnel that her son suddenly stopped breathing while she was feeding him, police said. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and staff noticed that the infant was suffering from severe trauma and had a fractured skull.

The boy was airlifted to a Chicago trauma center where he remains on life support, police said.

Jones later admitted that she beat the child against a piece of furniture and left him unconscious on the floor for some time before asking a neighbor to call 911, police said.

Jones has been charged with aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery.
