Aurora Police Officer Christopher Weaver will lead the national anthem at the Last Fling in Naperville on Sept. 1 as part of the Naperville Jaycees recognition of the first responders who dealt with the fatal shootings in February at the Henry Pratt Co. in Aurora.

All proceeds from beverage tent tip jars on Sept. 1 will be donated to the Aurora Police Foundation, the Jaycees said.

Sept. 1 also will be Special Needs Day at the Last Fling. Attendees can enjoy carnival rides from 10 a.m. to noon with no waiting lines as well as bingo, a glow dance party and free entry into the Family Fun Land.

Lung cancer fundraiser set for Sept. 8

The LUNGevity Foundation is hosting Breathe Deep DuPage, a community walk and fundraiser, at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Naperville Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court.

Registration is $25 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and students with a valid ID, and $10 for children ages 5 to 13. Lung cancer survivors and children under 5 are free.

Funds will support research into early detection and more effective treatments for those with lung cancer. Breathe Deep DuPage will recognize several local lung cancer survivors and honor those who have died.

After the event, there will be snacks, a DJ, a kids’ area and a raffle and silent auction.

Election judges needed in Will County

The Will County Clerk’s Office is looking for residents interested in serving as election judges for next year’s primary and general elections.

New election judges are required to attend a 21/2-hour training class. Pay is $150 on election day plus mileage reimbursement.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and registered voters in Will County. High school juniors and seniors with a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0 are eligible to apply.

The primary is on March 17 and the general election is on Nov. 3.
