A 61-year-old woman from Sandwich has been charged in connection with a shooting on Aurora’s East Side on Sunday, police officials said.

Abigail Arellano, of the 300 block of South Clark Street, has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, a felony, Kane County court records show.

Aurora police officers responded to reports of a person shot around 11:50 p.m. Sunday on the 2000 block of Charles Lane, police said in a news release. Upon arrival, they found a 38-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Arellano is accused of shooting the man in the abdomen during an argument, police said. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries and is expected to survive.

Police located Arellano at the scene and she was taken into custody.
