A Frankfort man has been charged with possession of child pornography following an investigation by New Lenox police.

A bond hearing for Aaron Bettenhausen, 42, of the 10200 block of Kuse Road, was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Bettenhausen is a registered sex offender, according to New Lenox police, who began an investigation July 2 after being called to the Target store, 2370 E. Lincoln Hwy., for a report of a man taking inappropriate pictures of young women with his cellphone.

Police said one woman Bettenhausen was photographing confronted him, and that when he left the store she followed and was able to give police a description as well as his license plate information, police said.

Police said a search warrant for Bettenhausen’s phone turned up images of child pornography and that a search of his home also uncovered digital files.

In 2013, while living in Peotone, Bettenhausen had been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography following an investigation, according to the Will County state’s attorney’s office. In that case, it was alleged that Bettenhausen secretly recorded an underage girl while she was naked in the bedroom of her home.
