Work continues on a new Chick-fil-A location in Deerfield, even though the project developers initially hoped to have construction wrapped up by the spring.

Within the fenced-off site that once housed an Office Depot, construction crews and equipment have developed the structure to the new restaurant along the east side of Waukegan Road, just south of Lake Cook Road.

Last August, when village board members approved the project, developer Brett Katz told Pioneer Press that he and his partner Josh Levy were working to demolish the former Office Depot by the fall and complete construction on the Chick-fil-A location by spring 2019.

The demolition process took longer than previously planned, according to village officials.

Clint Case, code enforcement supervisor for Deerfield, said the developers received a demolition permit April 30. A construction permit then was issued and work began May 29, he said.

Recently, the project developers would not say when the new restaurant could open in Deerfield. Katz declined comment when reached late last month.

Even though work is ongoing on the Chick-fil-A location, construction hasn’t yet started on a second building planned for the site that could house up to four businesses, Case said.
