Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 will soon open its pre-K and kindergarten registration for next school year, officials announced in news release.

Registration day for the 2020-2021 school year will begin Jan 22 at Laura B. Sprague School, where the district’s pre-K to second grade classes are heldaccording to the release.

Preschool registration is for children ages 3 to 5, and kindergarten registration is only for children who will turn 5 by Sept. 1, school district officials said in the release.

The three-school district, which serves some 1,800 students — including more than 500 at Sprague, averaged 19 kids in kindergarten classes, according to 2019 state board of education data.

Officials stated in the release that families will have the option of choosing the free half-day kindergarten program or the tuition-based full-day program.

The district currently has seven full-day kindergarten classes and one half-day class. Full-day kindergarten includes longer lesson plans and five days of physical education a week, compared to two days in the half-day program, according to school district spokeswoman Margaret Van Duch.

“If a half-day class teaches 15 minutes of a math lesson plan, a full-day class might extend it to 30 minutes,” she said in an email.

Full-day kindergarten tuition for the upcoming school year is $3,945.

Nearby Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102 is among the area school districts that also offers tuition-based full-day kindergarten, according to its website.

For pre-K in SD103, families will be able to register their children in one of three early childhood programs: a special education self-contained classroom, a free blended classroom or a tuition-based Community Peers blended classroom, according to school district information.

Tuition for the Community Peers program for the 2019-2020 school year will be $3,145 — a $62 increase from the previous year, according to information from the school district.

Kindergarten and preschool tuition costs can be paid in full or in two installments, Van Duch said.

To register a child, the child’s original birth certificate or passport will have to be provided. Also, proof of Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 residency will be required. Residency information can found on the district’s website, the release states.

Additionally, medical, eye and dental examinations are required by the state for entry into kindergarten, according to the release.

For families that can’t attend registration day, children can be registered at Sprague during any school day, according to the release.

In addition to registration, SD103 is also offering a preschool screening Feb. 10, according to a separate news release.

Children age 3 and 4 are eligible and can be screened for gross and fine motor skills, speech and language, conceptual development and issues with vision and hearing.

“This screening is for preschoolers with developmental concerns and not for determining a child’s kindergarten readiness,” the release states.

Screenings will also be held at Sprague.
