Wind-swept snow belted Chicago on Jan. 17, 2020, making roadways a mess and forcing commuters to slosh through the wintry mix as they trekked across the area. The wind and snow was followed by a wind chill advisory later in the weekend for several western and northwestern counties as residents faced some of the coldest air since nearly a year ago when the city was seized in the grip of the polar vortex.
