NHS England statistics do not include people who have died outsode of hospital, for example in care homes or at home.

They include anybody with coronavirus, or covid-19, mentioned on their death certificate, as well as patients who tested positive for the virus.

The number of people who have died with coronavirus in hospitals operated within West Sussex trusts are as follows:

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 109

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust – 17

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – 247

There are now 1,332 confirmed cases in West Sussex, rising from 1,316 on Sunday.

A total of 27,160 people have sadly died from coronavirus in hospitals in England but, with deaths outside of hospitals not included in that figure the real number is likely to be much higher.

The Office for National Statistics counts deaths from all locations, but that data is a couple of weeks behind the more up to date NHS England figures.
