This is the moment a stag do were caught up in a brawl in Newcastle city centre .

Footage shows a violent brawl breaking out after someone hurls a traffic cone at a group, understood to be part of a Scottish stag party, as they walked down Westgate Road.

After the cone is thrown a member of the group can be seen aiming a kick only to end up on the floor.

Punches and kicks are then unleashed as onlookers rushed over the road in a bid to break up the fight near the Mile Castle.

One onlooker told ChronicleLive: "The lads sounded Scottish and were heading for their train with their cases but they were started on.

"One of them was telling the other lot to calm down but then the cone was thrown.

"It all kicked off - one of the Scottish lads even dropped his chicken.

"Police were called but they got there too late and it was all over.

"But it wasn't the Scottish group's fault."

A Northumbria Police spokesman said the Grainger Street incident is now closed.

A statement from the force said: "At about 12.30pm yesterday police received a report of a fight on Westgate road near The Mile Castle.

"It was reported that around six men were involved in a fight.

"Officers attended the area but those involved have left the area.

"Nobody involved has contacted police or made a complaint.

"Police would encourage anyone who has been a victim of an assault to contact police."
