Coronavirus is sweeping the UK, with the number of cases rising on a daily basis.

Covid-19 is known as a novel coronavirus which means it is a member of the family of viruses which has never previously been encountered.

The virus can cause pneumonia and those who have become ill have reported coughs, fever and breathing difficulties.

As of March 16, there were 1,543 cases in the UK and 55 deaths.

There have been 86 cases of coronavirus confirmed in North East and Yorkshire.

Of those 86, 11 from Newcastle have been confirmed by health authorities, three in North Tyneside one in Sunderland, one in Gateshead and one in County Durham.
