It is the boutique cinema chain which offers a film fans a chance to watch a movie in luxury.

And the first Everyman Cinema is set to premiere in Newcastle city centre sooner rather than later.

Work to turn the space which once housed nightclub Legends into a four-screen underground cinema is ongoing.

A licensing application for the Grey Street site has also been lodged with Newcastle City Council.

Should that be approved, it will be a case of lights, camera and action for the venue - which bosses hope to open in the coming months.

"Everyman Newcastle is scheduled to open in late Spring 2019," confirmed the firm's marketing assistant, Stefan Graham.

Known for showing a mix of classics, art house movies and blockbusters in luxurious surroundings, the firm previously pledged to invest around £3m in the Earl Grey House project, which will also create around 30 new jobs.

It is expected to have a bar and a restaurant.

And the licensing application shows the firm wants permission to stay open - and serve alcohol - from 8am until 1am seven days a week.

A condition of the licence means film fans could be barred from queueing outside neighbouring Harry's Bar.

On its website, Everyman says it is "redefining cinema".

It adds: "[We bring] an innovative lifestyle approach to our venues, where you swap your soft drink for a nice glass of red wine and a slice of freshly made pizza served to your seat.

"We create a warm and friendly atmosphere, with an excellent food and drink selection and fantastic customer service.

"With a wide array of mainstream, independent and classic films, special events, launches and a diverse calendar of live satellite broadcasts, there is something for everyone at Everyman."
