You'd have thought it wouldn't take a Google search to realise Newcastle is nowhere near Yorkshire.

But bizarrely, it appears it is one of the most searched for questions asked about our city.

And it seems people are quite curious  - and perhaps a little scared - of Geordies.

Outsiders seemingly think we could be tough Scots - or even vikings.

These are just some of the strange questions being asked about Newcastle on Google.

Is Newcastle in Yorkshire?

Seriously?

Even though Yorkshire's boundary is a bit vague (some Teessider's insist they are from the White Rose county), Newcastle is miles away.

I mean, it isn't like Greggs is known for doing a mean fat rascal or parkin is it?

Is Newcastle safe?

That's a tricky one to answer.

Most people who visit Newcastle have a wonderful time.

But Government statistics show that, compared to similar sized cities like Leeds and Nottingham, the crime rate is higher.

And Northumbria Police data shows you are more likely to become a crime victim in Newcastle than say in Gateshead or Sunderland.

But compare it to the likes of Manchester or London - the crime rate doesn't seem that worrying.

And Geordie's are famous for their generosity and kindness.

Will Newcastle be sold?

We assume they mean Newcastle United, not the city itself.

But it shows that the interest in Mike Ashley leaving St James' Park has caught the imagination of football fans outside of Tyneside.

The Sports Direct tycoon certainly seems to want to sell while the BZG group, who have bid for the Magpies, are desperate to own a Premier League club.

Hopefully there will be an answer sooner rather than later.

Why is Newcastle Quayside closed?

Is it? Seems pretty open to us.

Just get yourself down for confirmation that it is booming down there.

Is Newcastle in Scotland?

Again, no. Get a map.

Why is Newcastle Airport so expensive?

So the flights are booked, the bags are packed and you fancy starting your holiday with a quick pint and a snack at the airport.

Then you get the bill.

Newcastle International Airport

It's £4.59 for a sausage roll and £6.29 for a bacon sarnie.

Pints can be so expensive too that you need a second just to numb the pain.

Even Greggs' legendary breakfast deal costs more (although it is still a proper bargain).

But to be fair, the prices are similar to any other airport.

Are Geordies tough?

We don't wear coats.

We've bloomed despite generations of Government cuts and neglect.

If you want further proof of our toughness, just look at this picture of Alan Shearer.

So, yes. Yes we are.

Why is Newcastle so cold?

The obvious answer would be because it is more northern.

But is it really that grim up North?

Not really, as the recent scorching temperatures will back up.

But while we do have largely cooler temperatures, that is more to do with air mass and wind.

Here in the North East the air mass is influenced by very cold winds from the Arctic, unlike the South, which is influenced by tropical African winds.

That's why we tend to get the raw deal.

Are Geordies from Sunderland?

You can't be serious!
