A drink driver was arrested after his own wife reported him to the police.
Satnam Singh had been to visit his wife, who the court heard was receiving steroids for an unspecified condition which impacted her thinking.
The 55-year-old had enjoyed a drink before leaving her. However, she alerted Northumbria Police who pulled his Alfa Romeo over as it headed south on the A189.
The Morpeth man was arrested shortly after midnight on September 11 and on Tuesday pleaded guilty to drink driving.
He's now been banned for a year - but has vowed to keep caring for his wife despite her actions landing him in court.
"She's the one who called police," said solicitor Andrew O'Hanlon, mitigating.
"But he continues to look after her despite what she's done."
North Tyneside Magistrates' Court heard Singh has since sold the car, instead using the bus to visit his wife who he cares for.
He was arrested after police officers breathalysed him after he "showed signs of being drunk" when stopped.
Tests revealed he had 42 microgrammes of alcohol on breath, slightly above the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.
"This is a low reading but it's against the law," admitted Mr O'Hanlon.
However Tuesday's sentencing heard the defendant will stand by his wife, who has "various problems", with the solicitor stating Singh "will not abandon her."
The defendant, of Shields Road, was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £32 charge along with £85 in costs.
