The Tour of Britain came to a halt when riders were caught on the wrong side of a level crossing.

Half of the peloton was stopped at the closed level crossing at Widdrington , Northumberland .

The breakaway was also stopped at around 2.20pm and Tour of Britain organisers had to work out what the gap was when the disruption happened.

Riders were on their way again after being stopped for around 10 mintues. Follow our live coverage.

It comes after stage 3 of the event got under way in Berwick on Monday at around 11am.

Riders have passed through a number of towns and villages including Alnwick, Bamburgh and Belford.

The race is expected to finish in Newcastle city centre at around 4pm.

On Tuesday, stage four of the race will get under way on Gateshead Quayside and pass the Angel of the North and through County Durham on its journey to Kendal.
