Jack Wilshere is expecting a tough battle against Newcastle United as he prepares to go face to face with his former team-mate Isaac Hayden.

The former Arsenal duo will be on opposing sides as West Ham face the Magpies in Shanghai for their final game of the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Wilshere has plenty of respect for the ex-Hull City player and also believes Newcastle will be a tough side to break down under Steve Bruce.

Speaking at the Press conference at the Shangri-la hotel in Shanghai, Wilshere told the Chronicle: "I am not surprised at how Isaac has done.

"He was a young player when I was at Arsenal and he got a bad injury.

"He has taken a different path but he has done well.

"Isaac is a tough opponent to play against and makes life difficult for teams.

"He will always leave his foot in and just because it is pre-season I'm sure things won't be any different.

"But Newcastle are a good team who now have a good manager and it will be a tough test."
