Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley has given a rare interview outlining the club's focus on the academy.
Elsewhere, reports in the German media have discussed how United are believed to be keen to sign Jetro Willems permanently.

Charnley breaks silence
Lee Charnley says Newcastle United want to have the “best Academy in the region” as Matty Longstaff and Sean Longstaff dominate the headlines.
Charnley has spoken to The Athletic about the club’s Academy after Longstaff scored a superb winning goal against Manchester United at St James’ Park, saying that the club want to fill the system full of boys from the local area who “will get chances”.
“You hear people talking about footballers being mercenaries. These are two boys who desperately want to play for their hometown club,” he said.
“To see Sean do it last year and Matty get his opportunity — and he looked like it was his 25th or 50th game, not his first — was so pleasing for everyone. I think it was fantastic and we’ve seen the public reaction, not just the Newcastle public. I saw what Gary Neville tweeted after the game.
“We want to be the best academy in the region."
Willems' release clause
Newcastle United can turn Jetro Willems’ loan move into a permanent deal at the end of the season – and have a clause in the contract to do it.
The left-back has made a solid start to life at St James’ Park and has impressed club bosses with both his attitude and ability. He scored an excellent goal at Anfield as Newcastle lost 3-1 to Liverpool , and then turned in a good display as Newcastle defeated Manchester United.
And the Magpies will benefit from the fact that the clause they negotiated was on the back of an injury-hit season with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurth.
Roberts on 'shock' NUFC release
For 14 years, Cal Roberts lived the dream of every boyhood Newcastle United fan.

Matty enjoys non-league day
One week on from his heroics against Manchester United, Matty Longstaff has proven he remains grounded by turning out for non-league day.
The Newcastle United midfielder was pictured showing his support for Heaton Stannington FC on Saturday.
The 19-year-old was one of the 257 in attendance at Grounsell Park as the EBAC Northern League side thrashed Carlisle City 5-1.
Matty Longstaff took time out to pose for pictures and sign autographs, and even made a new friend with the club's dog mascot Harry.
Corbyn: Ashley 'letting down' NUFC fans
Jeremy Corbyn has insisted Mike Ashley is "letting down" Newcastle United fans as he continues his attack on billionaire football bosses.
The Labour leader met with NUFC fan groups last weekend to discuss proposed regulations for big clubs, and took aim at the NUFC owner in particular.
The Labour policy would see Premier League clubs made to invest 5% of their TV income in the grassroots game and give two elected supporters a place on their board of directors.
But the attack sparked anger from the NUFC board, who issued a statement slamming Mr Corbyn for his "damaging and misinformed opinions".
In an interview with news and sport website Joe.co.uk , the MP has now said Mr Ashley was one example of a football owner who, he believed, should be made to invest more in his club as a community asset.
Chi accused of 'populist politics'
Labour MP Chi Onwurah has defended claims she's playing 'populist politics' in her criticism of how Newcastle United is operated.
The Newcastle Central MP has publicly sparred with Mike Ashley in the past. She once presented a petition to Parliament demanding he stop "exploiting" the club, and has called for more light to be shed on the club's finances.
She's waged war on profit-driven football club owners, a battle backed by party leader Jeremy Corbyn on a visit to Tyneside last week.
