Ross Wallace has described the moment Dean Whitehead stood up to Roy Keane in the changing room.

Keane is one of the most intimidating characters to grace the English game, both as a player where he captained Manchester United to numerous honours, and as a manager at Sunderland and Ipswich.

Wallace played under Keane at Sunderland and admitted the players 'feared' the former Black Cats gaffer.

But there was one occasion where Keane met his match and emotions almost spilled over.

"There is only one person I have seen that stood up to him. Dean Whitehead," Wallace told the Open Goal podcast.

"They were going to have a full on scrap in the dressing room.

"We had played like Scunthorpe or someone in the Championship and I am pretty sure Roy said to the kitman: 'Get the tactics board up'.

"All the lads came over, kitman puts the tactics board up. Roy just goes over with a kung-fu kick, smashes it all over the dressing room with all the bits all over the floor.

"We were all just sitting there thinking: 'Oh no'! His assistant was trying to find all the wee bits underneath all the seats while he was talking.

"Then he told Dean Whitehead he was having a stinker. Deano stood up to him and they were face to face about to go at it. He was the only person I saw that stood up to him."
