Sunderland season card holders will be refunded for the three outstanding home games if the 2019-20 season is cut short, the club has confirmed.

Alternatively, if the campaign is completed behind-closed-doors, season card holders will be given a free streaming pass to watch the remaining home games.

The EFL has yet to confirm whether the season will be completed behind-closed-doors or be curtailed, but a decision is expected next week.

Sunderland said in a statement: "Throughout what continues to be an incredibly challenging period, the club has consulted various supporter groups to ensure fans' voices are heard and that they are represented in any decisions made.

"Like all clubs, SAFC has incurred the cost of a full season without receiving the projected revenue that typically comes with it, but we recognise that supporting those who support us is paramount.

"As a result, the club can confirm that fans with existing season cards will be eligible to apply for a refund should the 2019-20 season be curtailed.

"In the event that the current campaign is completed behind closed doors, season card holders would be given a free streaming pass for all remaining home fixtures.

"Once clarity on the completion of the 2019-20 season has been provided by the EFL, further information will follow."

Sunderland will also offer a streaming pass to 2020-21 season card holders to watch any games held behind-closed-doors should next season begin before spectators are allowed back inside stadia.

Sunderland have also extended the early bird rate for 2020-21 season ticket renewals until further notice, although supporters wishing to buy or renew by direct debit must purchase by June 11, with the first payment taken on July 1.

The club says any unrenewed seats will be reserved until further notice to ensure those who are unable to commit to a season card at present do not lose their preferred spot.

The statement continued: "Despite the unprecedented uncertainty surrounding the resumption of professional football in the UK, thousands of SAFC fans have already thrown their support behind the club by renewing for the 2020-21 campaign.

"This is an unparalleled demonstration of loyalty at a time when your support is more important than ever. It is very much appreciated, and it will not be forgotten.

"2020-21 season cards will remain on sale at the early-bird rate until further notice and supporters utilising the direct debit scheme are advised that the first payment will be processed on Wednesday, July 1.

"The deadline to buy or renew using the direct debit plan is Thursday, June 11.

"Of course, the impact of Covid-19 transcends football and we appreciate the enormous toll it continues to take on our supporters and our community.

"If you are signed up to auto-renew via direct debit and are unable to do so at this time, please ensure that you cancel your direct debit renewal by contacting ticket.office@safc.com by Thursday, June 11, to ensure that you are not charged.

"Any unrenewed seats will be reserved until further notice to ensure fans unable to commit to a season card at this time do not lose their favoured spot.

"Should next season start behind closed doors, 2020-21 season card holders would be eligible for a streaming pass at no additional cost."
