Sunderland welcome Portsmouth to the Stadium of Light on Saturday as they look for their first win in League One this season.

The Black Cats have kicked off their League One campaign with successive 1-1 draws against Oxford and Portsmouth but will be buoyed by their 3-1 win over Accrington in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Goals from Marc McNulty, Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke secured their passage through to round two at the Wham Stadium, where they will face a trip to Premier League side Burnley.

But until then, focus returns to the league and a clash against a side tipped to be one of Sunderland's promotion rivals this season.

Sunderland and Portsmouth forged a rivalry last season as they played each other five times over the course of the season.

Pompey beat Sunderland on penalties in the final of the Checkatrade Trophy but the Black Cats gained their revenge by beating Portsmouth in the semi-finals of the League One play-offs.

Kenny Jackett's side have started the season well picking up one win in the League, as well as thrashing Championship side Birmingham 3-0 in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
