It's the beer-drinkers' bible and each year the CAMRA Good Beer Guide is eagerly awaited to see which popular boozers around the UK make the cut this time around.

And local ale fans can raise a glass this Thursday as the Campaign for Real Ale's guide, published this September 12, includes almost 100 pubs across the region.

Venues in Northumberland and the length and breadth of Tyne and Wear will be saying cheers to the news that they feature among CAMRA's pick of the very best pubs serving real ale across Britain.

The independent guide is fully revised and updated each year and this is the 47th edition.

The chosen pubs are picked after evaluation by CAMRA members and breweries also get a look-in in a showcase of micro, regional and national producers of real ale in the UK.

Here are the 99 pubs in Northumberland and in and around Newcastle, as they appear in the guide, which have been newly rated as among the best. You can also take a trip down memory lane with 20 pubs that are no more.
