There has been loads of excitement around it and now we can officially reveal when Greggs' first Newcastle drive-thru will open.

Ever since the idea was mooted last year, there has been growing anticipation for the new branch at Tyneside Auto Parc and it's very nearly time to get a bite of the action.

And that's because famous Geordie bakers Greggs are opening their first Drive-Thru in its birthplace of Newcastle on Thursday, July 11.

The highly-anticipated opening is Greggs’ fourth Drive-Thru in the UK and its opening hours are 6am – 9pm Monday – Saturday and 7am – 7pm on Sundays.

The Drive-Thru is located off the A1056 Sandy Lane, North Gosforth – just down the road from where Greggs opened its first shop.

The new opening will create 20 new jobs in the area and for those customers who wish to enjoy their purchases inside there is seating available for 40 people as well as 40 seats outside.

To commemorate this milestone opening, a vintage ‘Sausage Rolls’ will be the first car to use the Drive-Thru on Thursday morning.

The vehicle will be decked in Greggs bunting and accompanied by a themed brass band.

The first customers through the Drive-Thru can snap up free Greggs themed merchandise, including air fresheners and stickers, whilst ordering their food from the comfort of their car.

Roger Whiteside, Chief Executive of Greggs, said: “Since Greggs was founded 80 years ago we’ve constantly evolved as a business to meet the changing needs of our customers.

"We know that having convenient access to quality food on the go is key, so that’s why we’re opening more stores where our customers want us to be, including in more travel locations.

“We’ve experienced high demand from our existing Drive-Thru shops and we hope to replicate this successful format elsewhere across the UK.”

The Sandy Lane Drive-Thru will offer Greggs’ core product range across the day, allowing customers to enjoy the recently launched summer menu , which features pasta salads, cold drinks and wraps - including a vegan wrap - as well as freshly baked savouries and sandwiches.

Breakfast will be served until 11am, featuring favourites such as bacon rolls, fresh fruit and a full range of freshly ground, Fairtrade coffee.

Greggs’ three other Drive-Thrus are located in Irlam (Greater Manchester), Ashby-de-la-Zouch (Derbyshire) and Blackburn (Lancashire).
